RCC Open Meeting with Mark Lyford: From School Streets to Sacred Paths
20 August @ 19:00 – 20:30
join us to hear Mark Lyford, Sustrans Active Travel Officer for Reading & Bracknell, update us on the Reading Borough Council (RBC) School Streets programme. School Streets transform roads outside schools into pedestrian-friendly zones during peak drop-off and pick-up times.
RBC currently operates six School Streets across the borough, covering 10 schools—including eight primary schools and two secondary schools. These streets are temporarily closed to traffic to create safer, healthier environments for children and families.
Find out if they are making a positive difference…
After a short refreshment break, Mark will share stories and insights from his Camino bike rides, beginning right here in Reading.
Mark’s journey follows the historic St James pilgrimage route, which stretches from Reading Abbey to Southampton. This 68.5-mile (110-kilometre) path is believed to have been used by medieval British pilgrims en route to Santiago de Compostela, and is now officially recognised as part of the Camino Inglés in the UK.
Come along to discover how ancient footsteps have become modern pedal strokes—and how the spirit of pilgrimage lives on today!
Please let us know if you can join us by emailing: secretary@readingcyclecampaign.org.uk
We will be meeting in Room 1 at RISC. Please enter the building from the rear. Secure bike parking available.
