The presentation by Keith Elliott (RCC Secretary) and John Lee (RCC Campaigns Officer) looked at the various transport proposals and issues that have been topical for cyclists in Reading over recent years. They reviewed both what happened and the opportunities there were for doing things differently.
Keith opened the presentation looking at the Inner Distribution Road (IDR), the Reading Station Interchange, Reading Town Centre one-way system, the Cow Lane Rail bottleneck and Christchurch Bridge.
John shared his insights into a number of more recent schemes including;
- The Vastern Road Roundabout – worst accident location in Reading
- Station Subway – can now be used by cyclists
- Cycle Lanes on A329 – and issue of parked cars next to cycle paths and doors opening
- Local Cycle and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP)
- Active Travel Funds (ATF) – Tranche 1 no consultation from RBC
- ATF Trance 2 – off carriageway schemes & priority at side road junctions
- ATF Tranche 3 – Bath Road and Castle Hill junction with IDR
- Town Centre Signing and Routes 2016-2023
- Redlands Road Traffic Calming 2020-2023
The presentation closed with a Q&A session.
