Christchurch Bridge To Get Hairpin Bends?

Information

Christchurch Bridge plans

Berkeley Homes has now submitted its planning application for blocks of flats on Vastern Road. Importantly for cyclists this development includes for a new link from the cycle/pedestrian bridge over the Thames to Vastern Road and the town centre.

This is a once-only opportunity to make a good quality cycle link from north Reading to the town centre, but Berkeley has proposed a ramp with two 180 degree switchbacks, one of which is the milling around area in front of a café. We don’t think this is great.

If you want to view, comment or object to this application you can do so on the Reading planning portal (http://planning. reading.gov.uk). The application number is 200188.

  1. You say that “Importantly for cyclists this development includes for a new link from the cycle/pedestrian bridge over the Thames to Vastern Road and the town centre” but “when you log in to the application using the details provided, the description only talks about “a new north-south pedestrian link, connecting Christchurch Bridge to Vastern Road.” There is no mention of cyclists there.
Although your article summarises the issue well it would be helpful to signpost cyclists to the relevant documents as there are quite a lot to trawl through.
