Have your say on local CIL spending. Let’s prioritise Transport!

Consultations Information

Reading Borough Council (RBC) is currently consulting on priorities for spending the 15% neighbourhood portion of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). CIL is a charge on new developments that helps fund local projects such as transport, green spaces, education and community facilities.

You are invited to provide feedback to influence how this ‘local CIL’ is allocated. Previous consultations have funded projects like zebra crossings, safer routes and community centre improvements, so your response can lead directly to visible changes in your area.

The key infrastructure priorities, based on Council policy, are:

  • Transport infrastructure
  • Open space, green infrastructure and biodiversity
  • Education and health provision
  • Economic development and childcare

We strongly encourage you to take part in the consultation and to prioritise Transport infrastructure in your response. Better, safer transport – especially walking, wheeling, cycling and public transport – benefits everyone. Congestion and pollution are reduced. People of all ages and abilities are more able to access jobs, schools, healthcare and community spaces.

Take part now: Visit https://reading.govocal.com/en-GB/projects to share your views on the CIL spending priorities.

NOTE: Please ensure that you have submitted your comments by 5pm on 18th February 2026. If you have any questions, please contact the CIL team on CIL@reading.gov.uk.

By taking part in the consultation, and by putting Transport at the top of your priorities, you can help shape safer streets and better local connections for communities across Reading.
